MY RESEARCH AGENDA

My recent research activities and interests have been interdisciplinary. This reflects my multidisciplinary education background in anthropology, sociology, pedagogy, community organizing, psycho-education and social health, population and development, organization management and leadership, and adult and higher education. The following assumptions and research questions have guided and continue to influence my research agenda:

Theme I: Implications of Cross-nationalness/Transnationalness and Cross-culturality/Transculturality for motivation, behavior, decision-making, and practices of stakeholders (e.g., learner, teacher, educational leader, policy maker, family, employer, and community) in education. My main research question about this theme is: To what extent national contexts and cultures of the countries in the world foster cross-national/transnational and cross-cultural/transcultural trends that have potential implications for motivation, behavior, decision-making, and practices of stakeholders (e.g., learner, teacher, educational leader, policy maker, family, employer, and community) in education?

Theme II: Implications of globalization for comparative, global, international, and transnational education. With regard to this theme, my main research question is: What are the implications of globalization for meanings, perceptions, opportunities, and challenges in comparative, global, international, and transnational education?

Theme III: Social and economic justice, sustainability, and international educational development. The main research question that guides me about this theme is: What are the implications of social and economic justice, and sustainability for international educational development?

Theme IV: Scholarship of teaching and learning in relation to culture and context. Some of the research questions that influence my scholarship on this theme are: What is the role of motivation in education, and teaching and learning?  How can the classroom be used as a research space to inform teaching and learning?  What are the implications of technology and culture for practices in curriculum and instruction?
