One of the objectives of the GPA Ohio-Thailand project was to provide pre-service and in-service teachers with opportunities to revise syllabi and develop lesson plans as well as teaching strategies that integrate Thai culture, society, and language in Arts, English, and Social Studies classes.


To this end, pre-service and in-service teachers who participated in the project (a) revised existing syllabi and developed grade-level appropriate thematic units that acknowledge the diversity and richness of Thailand history, geography, society, language, and culture, in alignment to Ohio’s New Learning Standards (Ohio Department of Education, 2011); (b) Completed a one-week teaching practicum in a Thai school to gain insight into the educational culture and system in Thailand; (c) Developed, implemented and evaluated a one-week community service learning to gain insight into familial and community norms and youth culture in Thailand.
